Thank you to everyone who came out to our second annual BBQ event! We had an absolutely amazing day and with the help of our generous guests, we were able to raise over $37,000 for our girls’ tuition and food. It’s unbelievable how a day of fun can have such a profound impact on the lives of girls like Agnes. She, along with countless others, are children of parents forced to fight in a war that was not their own. Agnes’ mom cannot read, but because of the BBQ she will learn and then teach her mom.

While talking to one of the More than Me interns, she was telling me that she was tearing up as people came to make their donations. She understands that they are giving more than just money. Our girls are being given the opportunity to put down the wheelbarrow that they use each day to sell old clothes and instead go to school for the first time. Wearing uniforms and backpacks, they walk away from life on the street and into the classroom. The money we raised at the BBQ will go a long way to change the lives of many girls forever.

So, what’s coming up next for More than Me?

We’re so excited to announce our plans to start our own school in Liberia. The Liberian government donated a building for use as our school.

So while we have a space and vision, there is obviously still a ton of work to be done.

This new phase is another great chance for you to get involved!

On June 13th, we will begin our fundraising for the More than Me Girls’ Academy. A website called is hosting a match day on the 13th where they match 50% of all donations. Our goal is to get 1000 people to donate $25, but we need your help!

Please donate on the day of the event and spread the word to all of your friends so that you can help make our dream a reality.

Here is a link to the Facebook event:

A link to the donations site will be posted on the front page of our website:

All donations are greatly appreciated, but those received through GlobalGiving on June 13th will also be matched 50%. Thanks for all of your support!
