Get To Know is an introductory series on our blog where you can familiarise yourself with our staff and their work at More Than Me!

I am a native of Upstate New York, where I have spent most of my life. I studied Chemistry at Colgate University, but was involved in many other activities outside of this sphere as well. Upon my graduation from Colgate, I entered Peace Corps service as an Education Volunteer here in Liberia. I had the awesome and challenging experience of teaching 10th grade chemistry to seven sections of 45 students each at Voinjama Multilateral High School in Lofa County. I first became passionate about education in my experience teaching here. Being on the front lines of education in a country with a great number of challenges for the students, faculty, and all other participants in the system has shown me that it doesn’t take a lot to make a difference, and that one person’s actions can have a huge impact.

I joined MTM as an Education Fellow to continue my passion for education in Liberia, and what better place to do this than a pioneering organization in the improvement of public education. Getting started, I had a really great initial conversation with Alex that peaked my interest in MTM. This was followed by another great conversation with Saul that had me set on working with this exciting organization. Despite the many challenges of our work, I’m kept going by the dedication and high spirits of my awesome colleagues. I’m lucky to be working with such an amazing staff here at MTM, and I can’t wait to continue our work!
